3 connect crash on startup

Posted on March 24th, 2009 in Windows Vista by Terp

My neighbor had bought a 3G modem from 3, but the 3connect app crashed everytime they tried running it, so they asked me to fix it, and so i did.

It was because of an old 3connect driver (the standard that comes with the dongle) and macromedia flash 10, dont know why they have something to do with each other, maybe the app uses flash..

buy anyhow, i updated 3connect and it worked :)

annndd the update is here: https://tre.dms-hosted.birdstep.com/tre

Windows 7 MCE - No subs

Posted on February 15th, 2009 in Windows 7 by Terp

So .. wanted to see an AVI movie (backup ofcourse) on my newly installed media center, but after installing Win7 on my MCE it didt show subs, after some search on the www i found this solution,

On Win7 32bit;
1) Rename the MP3DMOD.DLL file in system32 folder to MP3DMOD_bak.DLL
2) Take ownership of mfpmp.exe in system32 folder
It may require you to have full ownership of the file, a guide to that is right here: Take Ownership Guide

On Win7 64bit:
1) Rename the MP3DMOD.DLL file in windows\syswow64 folder to MP3DMOD_bak.DLL
2) Take ownership of mfpmp.exe in system32 folder, not rename, just ownership

This may disable playback of mp3 files on your system, but as far as i can read, you can copy this file from vista and that should fix the problem, i will try to locate the files from my friends pc so all of you can leech it from my site.

ThePiratebay.org block work-around

Posted on February 10th, 2009 in Error Codes by Terp

Danish ISP have blocked TPB in the dns’s so users cant access it, to change that, open the file: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts the file is a regular txt file, so just open it with your favorite editor (notepad <3) and append this to the file:

83.140.65.21 upload.thepiratebay.org
83.140.65.50 rss.thepiratebay.org
83.140.65.50 captcha.thepiratebay.org

77.247.176.136 tpb.tracker.thepiratebay.org
83.140.176.146 thepiratebay.org
83.140.176.146 www.thepiratebay.org

If you are running vista you might get a permission error, in that case, follow these steps first:

1) Right-click the file and select Properties.
2) Click on the Security tab.
3) Click Advanced in the lower right.
4) In the Advanced Security Settings window that pops up, click on the Owner tab.
5) Click Edit.
6) Click Other users or groups.
7) Click Advanced in the lower left corner.
8) Click Find Now.
9) Scroll through the results and double-click on your current user account.
10) Click OK to all of the remaining windows except the first Properties window.
11) Select your user account from the list up top and click Edit.
12) Select your user account from the list up top again and then in the pane below, check Full control under Allow, or as much control as you need.
You’ll get a security warning, click Yes.

All done :D
The reason this works is because it dosnt use your dns servers to query the above domains, it asks the hosts file first

You might not have permission to use this network resource

Posted on January 16th, 2009 in Windows 7 by Terp

This error also applies for previous versions of windows, but its the first time i saw it since i became a beta tester for Windows 7
The problem is that there is a local policy blocking all in the guest account to access the computers share.
(seeing that the guest account is allready active)
but what i did to edit the policy;
1- Make sure the guest account is enabled
:Right click My Computer
->Manage
-> Local users and groups
-> UsersRight click on the account “guest” and select properties
->Make sure the box “Account is Disabled” is NOT checked.
2 Set correct local security policy:Start the “local security policy” console. (Under Administratove Tools, in the control panel)
->Go to: Local Policies
-> User right assignements
->Go to item 13: “Deny access to this computer from the network”.
->Right click it and go to Properties
->Remove the “Guest” account from the list, and OK
->Go next to to item 1: “Access this computer from the network”
->Right click it and go to Properties
->Add the “Guest” account to the list and OK.

[fixed] tv_grab_dk dosnt work anymore?

Posted on July 19th, 2008 in Windows Mediacenter by Terp

Hello

As some might have noticed the tv_grab_dk dosnt work anymore because tv2 changed thire way to show tv listnings .. so there is a source we cant use anymore (thanks tv2) but there is a tv_grab_script for the danish provider dr.

Some cons:Up to 18 days of listning, where others have around 7
Many epiode numbers –

but get it from here:
http://xmltvdk.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/xmltvdk/trunk/tv_grab_dk_drthe thing you need to do is configure it:

perl tv_grab_dk_dr —configure

after that, run tv_grab_dk_dr was you did with tv_grab_dkas in my case would be:

tv_grab_dk_dr –days 3 –output /var/www/tv.xml

Play DVD Files in Vista Media Center

Posted on November 5th, 2007 in Windows Mediacenter by Terp

As some of you have might noticed, you cant play the VIDEO_TS folder in the new vista media center, as you could in xp
and this suuuuuckes

but nothing a little registry editing dosnt fix!

locate: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\DvdSettings in regedit
and change the ShowGallery string from Play to Gallery

restart VMC and then you should have a new button called DVD Gallery

now tell it witch folders to watch to this by pressing the Info button in the folder!

done? you sure are, all your dvd rip movies should now show up :)

Burning with nero on remote desktop error

Posted on October 11th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

I use my vista mediacenter to burn data and so on, so i installed nero but when i ran it;

“if you are running nero burning software via windows remote login,you might not be able to access your drives for burning.this is a security restriction from windows”

And i tried to edit some local polices but nothin happend, but i found a temp. solution and thats just to run nero in administrator mode (right click on nero icon, run as administrator) and there is no problem at all!

but if you dont allow you remote desktop users to run things as administrator, i dont have a solution yet..

Update:

 You can edit you group policy to allow this;

Start Group Policy Editor

Go to the Start menu and type in; gpedit.msc
In the left pane of Group Policy Editor, navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage Access.
In the right pane of Group Policy Editor, change the value of the Setting, All Removable Storage: Allow direct access in remote sessions, to Enabled.
Exit Group Policy Editor and you should be able to burn a DVD over Remote Desktop now

Explorer Crash When Accessing Control Panel After Nero Installation

Posted on October 10th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

Lo ^^

I installed nero8 on my vista machine and since then i coudnt open the control panel?
i vent to the event viewer from run ( eventvwr.msc ) and saw that it crashed because of this file: neroburnrights.cpl

so .. the easy solution is to just rename the file, its located in the nero dir in my case:
C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero8\Nero Toolkit
or the other solution is to just reinstall nero without the toolkit

i dont know if there is any solution if you want to keep the toolkit, but i should work just fine, you just remove the control panel link for it

Multiple users on remote desktop (without logout!)

Posted on October 9th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

i just updated my server to vista mediacenter but i still wanted to remote it with remote desktop, but when i did, i would log my mediacenter out

solution? ofcause.. found this “hack” here

Download Sunmorgus’ hacked Termsrv.dll file HERE (If you’re using Vista HOME PREMIUM, use this link and follow the reg instructions below.)
EDIT 7/24: Thanks to Sunmorgus, here is the new location for the files:
For the 32bit:
http://rapidshare.com/files/44937685/termsrv_new.dll
for the 64bit:
http://rapidshare.com/files/44937686/termsrv64.dll

Now, Vista’s security needs a little massaging to allow you to modify the original termsrv.dll file, found in C:\Windows\System32, so….
Click Start, then type “cmd” in the search box & hit enter. This will launch the Command prompt
Type the following & hit enter: takeown /f C:\Windows\System32\termsrv.dll
Then type this & hit enter (NOTE: Replace USERNAME with YOUR USERNAME!! If your name has a space in it, enclose it with quotes, like “Mike Garcen”): cacls C:\Windows\System32\termsrv.dll /G USERNAME:F
Then go to your Windows Explorer, and go to C:\Windows\System32
Rename the original termsrv.dll to something else, like “termsrv.dll.ORIGINAL”, just in case
*NOTE* If you are unable to do the above, try rebooting into SAFE MODE
Then copy & paste the Hacked DLL you downloaded in Step 1 into the C:\Windows\System32 folder
And voila!
