3 connect crash on startup

Posted on March 24th, 2009 in Windows Vista by Terp

My neighbor had bought a 3G modem from 3, but the 3connect app crashed everytime they tried running it, so they asked me to fix it, and so i did.

It was because of an old 3connect driver (the standard that comes with the dongle) and macromedia flash 10, dont know why they have something to do with each other, maybe the app uses flash..

buy anyhow, i updated 3connect and it worked :)

annndd the update is here: https://tre.dms-hosted.birdstep.com/tre

Burning with nero on remote desktop error

Posted on October 11th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

I use my vista mediacenter to burn data and so on, so i installed nero but when i ran it;

“if you are running nero burning software via windows remote login, you might not be able to access your drives for burning.this is a security restriction from windows”

And i tried to edit some local polices but nothin happend, but i found a temp. solution and thats just to run nero in administrator mode (right click on nero icon, run as administrator) and there is no problem at all!

but if you dont allow you remote desktop users to run things as administrator, i dont have a solution yet..

Update:

 You can edit you group policy to allow this;

Start Group Policy Editor

Go to the Start menu and type in; gpedit.msc
In the left pane of Group Policy Editor, navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage Access.
In the right pane of Group Policy Editor, change the value of the Setting, All Removable Storage: Allow direct access in remote sessions, to Enabled.
Exit Group Policy Editor and you should be able to burn a DVD over Remote Desktop now

Explorer Crash When Accessing Control Panel After Nero Installation

Posted on October 10th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

Lo ^^

I installed nero8 on my vista machine and since then i coudnt open the control panel?
i vent to the event viewer from run ( eventvwr.msc ) and saw that it crashed because of this file: neroburnrights.cpl

so .. the easy solution is to just rename the file, its located in the nero dir in my case:
C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero8\Nero Toolkit
or the other solution is to just reinstall nero without the toolkit

i dont know if there is any solution if you want to keep the toolkit, but i should work just fine, you just remove the control panel link for it

Multiple users on remote desktop (without logout!)

Posted on October 9th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

i just updated my server to vista mediacenter but i still wanted to remote it with remote desktop, but when i did, i would log my mediacenter out

solution? ofcause.. found this “hack” here

Download Sunmorgus’ hacked Termsrv.dll file HERE (If you’re using Vista HOME PREMIUM, use this link and follow the reg instructions below.)
EDIT 7/24: Thanks to Sunmorgus, here is the new location for the files:
For the 32bit:
http://rapidshare.com/files/44937685/termsrv_new.dll
for the 64bit:
http://rapidshare.com/files/44937686/termsrv64.dll

Now, Vista’s security needs a little massaging to allow you to modify the original termsrv.dll file, found in C:\Windows\System32, so….
Click Start, then type “cmd” in the search box & hit enter. This will launch the Command prompt
Type the following & hit enter: takeown /f C:\Windows\System32\termsrv.dll
Then type this & hit enter (NOTE: Replace USERNAME with YOUR USERNAME!! If your name has a space in it, enclose it with quotes, like “Mike Garcen”): cacls C:\Windows\System32\termsrv.dll /G USERNAME:F
Then go to your Windows Explorer, and go to C:\Windows\System32
Rename the original termsrv.dll to something else, like “termsrv.dll.ORIGINAL”, just in case
*NOTE* If you are unable to do the above, try rebooting into SAFE MODE
Then copy & paste the Hacked DLL you downloaded in Step 1 into the C:\Windows\System32 folder
And voila!

IE7 “No connection to the Internet is currently available”

Posted on August 27th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

I use ie alot, for surfin the net and stuff ( :P ) but 80% of the pageloads this box comes up and tells that there is no internets? if i push try again it works fine.. hmm..

well the only solution i can come up with is this easy fix that has worked for me for some time:

Press Start -> Settings -> ControlPanel -> InternetOptions -> Connections -> LanSettings. Select “Automatically Detect Settings” and click on OK.

Now start Internet Explorer. Once it’s started and has loaded your home page, close Internet Explorer. Now go back to that same settings dialog and remove the check mark you just added and click on OK.

I am waiting for the bug to come up again, but so far it hasnt..

Recently i was trying to install Dreamweaver CS3 on my laptop and the installer crashes on startup, is there a fix? ofcause..

 On Windows Vista x86:

Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories.
Right-click the Command icon, choose Run As Administrator, and authenticate.

Navigate to Windows\System32.

At the prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press Enter.

When a dialog box with the message “DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded” appears, click OK.

On Windows Vista x64:

Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories.
Right-click the Command icon, choose Run As Administrator, and authenticate.

Navigate to Windows\SysWow64.

At the prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and
press Enter.

When a dialog box with the message “DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded” appears, click OK.

Msn cant connect

Posted on April 13th, 2007 in Windows Vista by Terp

Well, we all had this problem, if you havnt .. you will
Windows messenger has some strange errors once in a while

but in most cases its a firewall problem so, and the funny part is its probertly nothing about port fowarding in windows firewall, but instead try to turn off, then enable window firewall again, this i a common problem for me in vista, and i dont have any permenant solution for this yet :(

but if you tried that, then it can only be one thing, the time.. messenger will NOT connect if your time and date is wrong on the computer, you can try to use Microsofts NTP server for time sync. but this service dosnt really work :P
so, set the corrent time, date and year and that should be that!

every customer i have serviced, that had msn problemes, 95% of the problem was the time. this also apply for winxp
